MOUNT PLEASANT – The outdoor track and field teams will be diving headfirst into their seasons as they make their debuts at the LSU Relays in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday and Saturday against some historically stiff competition.

“The mindset is that we're going to go in and compete against the best so we know what the best is,” director of track and field and cross country Willie Randolph said. “In order to be the best, you have to compete against the best. We can take that experience home with us and use it as we're competing for a MAC Championship.”

The meet begins Friday at 10:30 a.m. with field events. Running events will begin at approximately 2:15 p.m. A complete schedule of events is available here.

Host LSU, Texas A&M, Illinois, Iowa, Army, and Connecticut were among the top-flight programs that competed at the 2011 edition of the LSU Relays. The list of teams that will be competing this season has not yet been finalized.

This meet will serve as the season debut for the Chippewas in the outdoor season. A total of 34 student-athletes will be competing for CMU – mostly sprinters, throwers and jumpers.

On the men's side, 22 student-athletes will be competing, and 12 women student-athletes will compete.

Live results will be available through LSUsports.net, and complete recaps of each day of the competition will be posted on CMUChippewas.com.
