BROOKLYN — This wasn't the storybook ending that Mattawan senior Thomas Meeker had envisioned for his career.
Meeker finished 115th (16:45) in the Division 1 cross country state finals race Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. Wildcats teammate Aaron Bell finished 123rd (16:48).
Meeker said the strong field of runners made getting close to the front difficult.
"I would have liked to end it maybe with the regional win, instead of coming here and not performing as I would have liked to," Meeker said.
"When I hit the two-mile slower than I should have been, I lost a little motivation there."
Despite the disappointing end, Meeker still leaves as Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference and regional champion.
"I did accomplish a lot of what I wanted, so I can't be too disappointed," he said.
