BROOKLYN--Kalamazoo Christian sophomore Kate McLain is always pushing herself to do better than she did her previous race, which made her 10th place finish in 19:19 in the Division 4 state finals at Michigan International Speedway a little bittersweet.
"It wasn't my best time," she said. "I'm happy with the place, just not the time."
Hackett Catholic Central freshman Lucy Ankenbauer didn't let her nerves slow her down-she finished 14th in 19:38 and led her team to a 16th place finish.
"I was nervous since I'm a freshman and I've never been to state before, but my coaches just said not to worry about it and just go with it," she said.
Lauren Cody ended her career at Lawton with a 21st place finish in 19:55.
