PORTAGE — Hackett Catholic Central left no doubt about who the top team was in the boys Division 4 regional cross country regional Saturday at Portage West Middle School.

The Irish placed five runners in the top 15. Michael Myers won the race in 16:57, Connor Bresnahan finished third (17:16), Austin Elluru ninth (17:49), Michael Elluru 13th (17:56) and Jonah Mathieu 15th (18:02).

"We felt pretty confident going in, so we kept our momentum rolling in this race," Myers said.

Bresnahan, usually the Irish's third runner, stepped up and ran a personal record by staying calm.

"I stuck to my strategy where I took it out pretty slow the first mile, and I just started passing people after that," he said.

Hackett coach Sean Ohman was all smiles after the race.

"They ran fantastic," he said. "Having five guys be all-regional, I couldn't ask for much more than that."

Eau Claire finished second (99) and Mendon finished third (107) behind junior Zach Hufstedler's second-place finish in 17:05.

Other area qualifiers were Lawton's Tony Pineada (fifth, 17:33), Kalamazoo Christian's Doug Hollett (sixth, 17:38) and Colon's Brandon Poortenga (14th, 17:58).
