Detroit Mercy - Men's Cross Country Places 6th at Horizon League Championships

HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio – The men's cross country team recorded 145 points at the 2011 Horizon League Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon landing them in sixth place overall. Martin Nelkie led the team with a 21st place finish.
The Butler Bulldogs had the top three finishers and ultimately would win the meet with a team score of 25. Callum Hawkins was the overall winner (25:43) as Ross Clarke took second (26:06) and Tom Curr placed third (26:10).
Loyola (62) finished second overall and UIC rounded out the top three with a score of 76. The Titans were in a battle with Wright State for fifth place. The Raiders ended up with 135 points compared to 145 for Detroit.
Martin Nelkie was the top Titan on Saturday afternoon with a time of 27:36. Teammates Bob Radlich and Colin Creagh ran in a pack as they finished 27th and 28th respectively. Radlich recorded a time of 28:00, while Creagh was close behind at 28:05.
Edwin Gay and Ylli Alla were the next two Titans to finish back-to-back. Gay placed 34th with a time of 28:23, while Alla was on his heels in 35th crossing the finish line at 28:26.
Ryan Hofsess and Erik Westbrook rounded out the effort for Detroit. Hofsess placed 43rd overall with a time of 29:02, and Westbrook ended the day in 47th with a time of 29:11.
