GVRC Hosts Grand Valley Turkey Trot 5k Race Benefiting Kid's Food Basket
Allendale, MI (Oct. 20, 2011) The Grand Valley Running Club (GVRC) will host its second
annual Grand Valley Turkey Trot 5k Race on Saturday, November 19, 2011.
The race will benefit Kids' Food Basket of Grand Rapids and will take place on Grand Valley
State University's Allendale campus. Additional support for the event will be provided by the
Athletic Training Club, who will serve as first-aid personnel and course marshals on race day.
The race offers many new features this year including: chip timing, race t-shirts, and a costume
contest. Race day festivities will also include a raffle and an awards ceremony for top finishers.
On race day, GVRC will also be holding a juice box & granola bar drive to provide supplies for
Kids Food Basket. Participants can view a list of items needed at
The First Annual Grand Valley Turkey Trot brought in 185 runners from all across Michigan and
helped raise over $600 for Kids Food Basket. Last year we had a fantastic turnout and we're
hoping to increase this year, said Kevin Hausfeld, president of GVRC and race director, our
goal is to establish the Trot as tradition for Grand Valley.
Participants can register online for only $15 at www.michianatiming.com/registration, or for $20
on the day of the race. Registrations are also accepted via snail mail, printable registration may
be requested from [email protected] Packet pick-up and race-day registration begins at
7:30am in Kirkhof Center. The race will start at 9am.
