Cross Country Returns To Roy Griak This Weekend

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State cross country team returns to action this weekend when it travels to the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. The men will get action started for MSU in the 8,000-meter race at 1:20 p.m. ET. The women will follow in the 6,000-meter race at 2:10 p.m. ET.
In total, three men's and eight women's teams ranked in the USTFCCCA national coaches' poll are slated to participate in the two races.

In the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) weekly poll, the women find themselves ranked 26th after their strong performance at the Spartan Invitational. Regionally, the women sit in third of the Great Lakes Region standings.
On the men's side, MSU is currently fifth in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes regional rankings.
Last Time Out
The Spartans held their annual Spartan Invitational on Friday at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the University campus. Over 4,800 athletes and 300 teams, covering college, high school and middle school age groups competed this afternoon, setting a new high mark for participants.
Beginning the day was the collegiate men's 8k race. Four Spartans finished in the top-15 in the only home race of the season. Leading the pack was redshirt freshman Alex Wilson who finished sixth overall in a time of 24:46.
On the women's side, redshirt senior Carlie Green was the top collegiate finisher, and second overall, with a time of 20:33. Only Rachel Patterson (20:16), running unattached, topped Green. It was a career best finish for Green, who also ran her fastest time at the Forest Akers course, and her second fastest time ever.
