ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) of the University of Michigan women's cross country team was named the Big Ten Runner of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday (Sept. 20).
Tauro led all Wolverine harriers across the finish line at the Illinois Orange & Blue Preview on Sept. 16 and recorded her second individual win in as many weeks. The Maize and Blue claimed the top six spots in the race en route to a perfect score and the team victory. The individual title was Tauro's 12th of her career. Her 6,000-meter time of 20:19 topped her previous personal best by one second.
This is the third time Tauro has received Runner of the Week in her career and the first for the Wolverines this season. The last time a Michigan runner earned the honor was Kaitlyn Peale on Oct. 27, 2009.
Michigan will be back in action on Oct. 1 when it travels to Kentucky for the Greater Louisville Classic. The women's 6,000-meter event is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start time.
