Running Fit World Headquarters Takes on a Whole New Look Press | Views- 229

Co-owner Randy Step describes the recent relocation of Running Fit's World Headquarters to be, "much more than a move " it's a totally different store.

Formerly located on Enterprise Drive, on September 15, 2009 Running Fit's Ann Arbor West location moved approximately one-half mile east on Jackson Road nearer to Zeeb. Housing Running Fit's event company and retail store, the newly remodeled building was once a church that has been recycled into the hub of Running Fit operations. Step recalls how the builders were adamant that the building should be torn down and built anew, but "We really liked the building and wanted to keep it out of the landfill."

"A multi sports store" is how Step describes the new venue. The installation of an Endless Pool is anticipated by January 2010, which will be used for wetsuit demonstrations. Customers will find more triathlon gear in addition to the quality footwear and apparel for which Running Fit is known.

The new building, which is 2,200 square feet larger than their previous home, will allow Running Fit to provide new amenities on top of their many ongoing services. Specifics are still in the works, but customers ought to look for a variety of classes, movie nights and other fun stuff soon to come.

Currently a group run is offered every Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m., which is free and open to the public. Runners of all ages and abilities meet at the store and generally go between 3 - 8 miles. New routes are being developed, but the group typically runs through the Burns-Stokes Preserve, located on Zeeb Road near Huron River Drive. This "hidden gem" of Washtenaw County consists of marshes, grassland, sedge meadows and an abundance of nature's beautiful surprises. Veteran runner, Larry O'Sullivan, welcomes one and all to meet up at Banfields for post run refueling.

Damsels in the Street, an extension of the Thursday night run meet at Running Fit's Headquarters every Thursday morning at 6 a.m. Led by Coach Gina, ladies generally run between 1 - 4 miles. Guys are welcome, but must pay $1 to join, proceeds of which will be used at a later time for a group breakfast. All runners must wear reflective gear and carry a headlamp or flashlight. Despite the glum economy Running Fit, voted the most charitable running store in 2008, is ecstatic to be experiencing their biggest year in the history of the company. Step shared, "Running Fit does so well because it changes based on what is happening. We continually reinvent ourselves."

He adds that while all of the kinks are still being worked out, "We're open for business! We'll announce our grand opening soon and invite everyone to come and drink champagne!"
