Dot McMahan wins the Ryan Shay Mile; Humphrey races the NYC Half Marathon; O'Brien at the Bix-7
Rochester Hills, MI, July 29, 2008--Hansons-Brooks (powered by Saturn) athlete Dot McMahan claimed victory in her second road mile this month while setting another personal best at the Ryan Shay Mile in Charlevoix on Saturday.
McMahan, a former mid-distance standout at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, took full advantage of the opportunity to showcase her range of talent--running a team best 4:35.21 road mile. She was followed by Grand Valley State alum and eight-time Division 2 National Champion Mandi Zemba in second place (4:35.77) and Hansons-Brooks teammate Desiree Davila in third place. Davila also ran a personal best 4:42.31, which was a seven second improvement over her previous road best for the mile.
In the men's division, Hansons-Brooks athlete Clint Verran placed fifth--running a solid 4:08.96. The winner was 2004 Olympian and former NCAA 1500 meter Champion Grant Robison (Lansing, Mich.). Robison ran 4:03.20 for the victory, while Jeremy Doherty (St. Louis) and Ben Rosario (St. Louis) rounded out the top-three in 4:04.21 and 4:06.98, respectively.

New York City Half Marathon--New York, NY
Hansons-Brooks athlete Luke Humphrey returned to Central Park yet again, placing 21st overall with a time of 1:06:23.
Tadesse Tola of Ethiopia out-kicked Patrick Makau (Kenya) in the final 100 meters for the victory in 1:00:58. In just his second half marathon, the twenty year-old Ethiopian tried to run away from heavy pre-race favorite Makau with a 4:30 opening mile. Makau covered every move, and the pair ran in tandem for the next eight miles, before trading leads three times over a blistering final 800 meters--with Tola earning his first major road victory over Makau by just a few steps at the line. Dathan Ritzenhein (Eugene, Oreg.) placed well behind the leaders in third place at 1:01:38.
Humphrey will return to New York City on November 2nd for the New York City Marathon.
