U of M Has More Athletes Making Their Mark This Summer
In addition to the efforts of Nick Wills, Nate Brannen, Kevin Sullivan, and Lindsey Gallo, 4 other runners are fairing well in international competition. Alyson Kohlmeier led two other U of M female athletes in terms of placing at the Pan Am Junior Meet. Alyson won the women’s 3k in a time of 9:25. Fellow U of M teammate, Lisa Canty, finished over a minute back in 7th place. Nicole Edwards placed 5th in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:38. Mike Woods, a male Wolverine runner, won the men’s 1500 event in a time of 3:45. Mike’s big accomplishment came in the opening nights special “Miracle Mile.” Mike was able to finish a strong runner-up position behind Adam Goucher, in a personal best time by over 4 seconds, 3:57.48.
Three Eastern Michigan Runners Grab Medals at the Pan Am Junior Meet
Eastern Michigan 10,000 meter runners Neal Naughton and John Perrin finished first and second at the Pan Am Junior meet. Neal’s time of 30:12 outdistanced John by just over 7 seconds. In the men’s 800 meter run, Jake Dubois of Eastern, finished a close third as fourth place was given the same time. Both runners finished the two lap race in 1:51.01. First place was less than .3 seconds ahead in a time of 1:50.76. Being a junior meet, these means that all three Eastern runners should be back for a couple more years of collegiate track and field.
Hanson/Brooks Will Now Have Three Marathoner Runners At the World Champs
Trent Briney made the decision not to compete at the World Champs sometime last week. With little room and time for making a last minute addition to a World team, Kevin and Keith Hanson started the process of attempting to replace Trent. Chad Johnson, a former Hanson now back training with the group, posted a 2:16 marathon time in the specified qualifying window. After what one would assume would involve numerous phone calls and conversations, Chad was given the final spot with only days before the World Championships opening ceremonies. The marathon will be contested on August 13th at 2:20 in the afternoon.
