DETROIT FREE PRESS/FLAGSTAR BANK INTERNATIONAL MARATHON NOW ON MICHIGAN RUNNER TV
The Michigan Runner TV show features the 25th running of the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank International Marathon. The show offers a variety of Internet television experiences. Viewers have the option of watching the overall marathon, the Compuware 5K Fun Run and Fitness Walk, the Expo and interviews with some of the winning athletes. http://michiganrunner.tv Alway on 24/7

SARNIA RUNNER DISQUALIFIED AT DETROIT FREE PRESS/FLAGSTAR BANK INTERNATIONAL MARATHON
Kent Hollingsworth's third place finish did not hold up under some tough scrutiny and he was disqualified. His finish was contested by runners in the fourth and fifth positions, who indicated that they had not seen him at all during the race and that they knew exactly who was in front of them.

According to an article in the Detroit Free Press by Eric Sharp, Kent Hollingsworth would have had to run some of those miles at around a four mile pace for his story to hold.

Mike Dudley of Boulder, Colorado moved to 3rd, Nate Norris of Ohio to 4th and Esteban Vanegas of St. Louis, Michigan to 5th.

Taken from an article by Eric Sharp in October 9 issue.

DURANGO MARATHON READY
Matt Kelly has everything ready for the 1st running of the Durango Marathon this Sunday. Durango has had a tough go of it this year with the terrible fires they had. However, the marathon is but another step in the healing process for this historic western town.

Matt and the community are excited about the turnout for the first marathon. http://durangomarathon.com

PORTAGE INVITATIONAL
Thousands of high school runners put this event on their calendars the first Saturday of October. And this year you can see the 5th Portage Invitational on Michigan Runner TV http://michiganrunner.tv Thursday at noon.

WHOLE FOODS HEALTH AND FITNESS EXPO
Congrats to Bill Ewing, a volunteer for the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank, who put together a terrific expo for the marathoners. The traffic flow was superb throughout the show and the vendors seemed pleased. This was Bill's 4th year at the helm and he has really stabilized this aspect of the race.

THINGS MAY APPEAR LARGER THAN THEY ARE
This is not the case with Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, as he is a very imposing figure up close. Kwame played defensive tackle in this collegiate days and could probably still suit up and cause some damage on a football team. He is a gamer though, as he jumped into the Compuware 5K with Freep publisher, Heath Meriwether, V.P. Gary Burkart of Flagstar and singer Anita Baker. The Freep has been blessed with running mayors, first Dennis Archer and now Kwame Kilpatick.

SPRING MARATHONS
Missed running your marathon this year? Representatives from the Flying Pig, Lakeshore and Pittsburgh Marathons were at the Marathon pushing their races, all remarkable on the first weekend in May.

CINDY BARBER KEELER-STILL RACING AFTER ALL THESE YEARS
Congrats to Cindy Barber Keeler, who qualified for the Olympic Trials for the 6th time. She is a lean mean running machine.

NEW SHOESPRING SHOE HAS LOCAL CONNECTIONS
Andy Krafsur stopped into Running Fit's Ann Arbor store this past week promoting their new ShoeSpring product. They are trying to create buzz about their revolutionary product. He is an attorney by trade, and ran collegiately at Albion College where he still holds the school record in the 1500m. Andy and his brother Dave grew up in Southfield.

They have developed a mechanical spring technology that has been adapted to footwear. Their first shoe is a running shoe that is receiving rave reviews. Their WaveSpring technology is laterally stable, fairly lightweight and compact enough to fit within a traditional sized midsole. The technology was developed by Andy's brother, David, an engineer and former two-time all- American at the University of Tennessee with a 10k PR of 28:46.

As a further Michigan connection, the shoes have been tested by Ray Fredricksen of Sports biomechanics through Michigan State. The results were phenomenal. He encourages people to check out the review on their website at www.ShoeSpring.com .

The shoes are currently available at Bauman's in Flint and Total Runner in Southfield.
