Calf Injuries

Postby SmittysIronWorks » Wed Aug 04, 2010 3:53 am

I have been battling a strained/ruptured Soleus all summer. I am trying to manage the injury to get one more race in (Air Force Marathon). I have been reading a lot about compression socks/sleeves. I bought a pair of Zensah calf sleeves yesterday. When is best time to wear them? During runs, daytime while working, while sleeping or all of the above? Any advice is welcome!

I am unsure when your upcoming race is or if you have completed it since your post, but I don't recommended running competitively with your muscle issue. I had a similar muscle strain several years ago, in which I kept racing on before it was back to 100%. This led to a sustained injury for several months in my calf. However, it will depend on the severity of your injury/pain.

As far as the compression sleeve goes, I would wear it during your training runs/workouts in order to be used to it during your competition. Good Luck!

You are probably 5 or more pounds overweight. Calf strains are common to runners in their 30s or older. I had my share in past. I used calf sleeves, had deep massage, used lots of ice, lots of stretching and more. All that helps. Sometimes you can train through these calf issues. Most often they restrict any quality training. A ruptured calf sounds like you have several deep muscle fiber tears. Two things) 1: Do not run. Ride a Life Cycle to maintain anerobic and aerobic fitness and leg strength. 2: Weigh yourself then really cut the calories and loose 5 to 10 pounds.

I had various calf strains on both legs when I was in my mid 30s into my late 40s. They usually came on when my training increased as well as my weight going up. Unless you train at or above 80 miles per week, you can't burn more calories training then you take in. When I lost 20 pounds and dropped closer to my college weight, my calf muscle injures dissappeared. That was 9 years ago. Unfortunately, other injuries come and go as get older.

Good luck

Are my parents responsible for injury in an auto accident caused by me? I about just had a question liability. I had an automotive accident the other day. There is the possiblity of an injury in the other party; the accident was my fault. My insurance covers up to only $25,000 for personal injuries. Suppose that the opposing party needs a significant amount over that. I am an 18 year old without much money. Are my parents liable/are they required to fork out the money? I am dependent under them by law and we are all on the same insurance policy. I reside in State of Texas.
