Julie's Run at the Farm is a memorial cross country race set on rolling farmland in northern Macomb County, SE of Romeo. Proceeds from the race fund a scholarship awarded annually to a Romeo girl track athlete.
Julie (Pihlaja) Korb was a stellar track and cross country runner at Romeo High School who died in her 20's of brain cancer. She was the daughter of Ray and Nancy Pihlaja of Romeo. Ray was a long time Utica coach and standout runner at Eastern Michigan University and in Macomb Country in the '80's.
Awards go to the top three finishers in eight age groups, with famous Achatz pies given to first and second places. Many raffle prizes to area stores and merchants are also presented. Walkers are welcome in a one mile course.
There are no changing areas at the farm, but there will be plenty of refreshments and a scenic, rural course to enjoy. This is an inexpensive, unique race that remembers one of the best female runners from northern Macomb County. You will be glad you made it to the race.
