Registration is open to the public for the Girls on the Run of Greater Kalamazoo 5k, presented by Eaton Corporation. On May 23, 2019 Girls on the Run of Greater Kalamazoo (GOTRGK) will host its 17th annual celebratory 5k. This is an untimed fun-run for the nearly 1,400 Girls on the Run participants from 60 schools and community sites throughout Greater Kalamazoo County. The public is invited to participate as either a community runner or as a one-day volunteer for the event. All ages and fitness levels are encouraged to run or walk the 3.1 mile course, which weaves throughout Downtown Kalamazoo and ends inside Waldo Stadium on the campus of Western Michigan University.

Over 29,000 girls have crossed the 5k finish line in Greater Kalamazoo since the program began here in 2002. “The 5k is a phenomenal moment as we see girls crossing the finish line having accomplished a goal that 10 weeks ago they each thought was impossible. Girls on the Run is more relevant than ever. A recent independent evaluation found that girls in our programs are significantly more likely than other girls to learn and use life skills including managing emotions, resolving conflict, helping others and intentional decision making.” said Melisa Beeson, Executive Director of Girls on the Run of Greater Kalamazoo.

All proceeds generated from event registration will support 3rd- 5th grade girls in the community who are not able to afford the program participation fee, which helps offset the cost of lessons, supplies and new running shoes.
