Join TriToFinish and Presenting Sponsor Short’s Brewing Company in collaboration with organizers of the MUTT Race and the Bay City Morning Rotary Driathlon are bringing back the third annual Red Moon Trail Run! The Red moon – or Sturgeon moon is a traditional name for the full moon that occurs in August and was named by Native American fishing tribes who knew that sturgeon in the Great Lakes were most easily caught under it.
The Race: Due to strong feedback from participants, this year’s race has changed distances up a little bit and will offer a 2 loop 10k event in place of the 15k 3 loop event. Come out to Midland City Forest in Midland, MI– same site as the popular Snow Moon Trail Run - as runners embark on a 5k, 10k or 25k race along wide trails (not single track). Runners completing multiple laps will run through a chute located directly inside a 3,200 square foot event tent (where the finish line is located).
Short’s Brewing Company is back to present the Red Moon Trail Run after having a blast with us at Snow Moon Trail Run this past February. We got together with Short’s and the Midland Eagles 2110 after Snow Moon to come up with a plan to shine up the serving process! Once again, all participants will receive a couple of cold brews post-race!
Note: Registration for this event is limited to just 400 participants, so sign up early!
Added amenities for this year’s race include Shorts Beverages, Age Group Awards, and Event Pint Glasses for all participants!
This is a USA Track & Field Sanctioned event. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Eagles of Midland 2110 and their community efforts.

The race is composed of a 5k trail course with runners able to choose from 1, 2, or 5 lap options. If you are opting for multiple laps, you’ll enjoy cheer from those in the tent as you run directly through a 3,200 square foot event tent. This race has one “aid†station manned by enthusiastic volunteers with hydration and snacks that participants will pass twice on each loop of the course.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring my dog to this race? Only if your dog…
Is used to running trails at night
Is tent trained (We don’t want to step in poo)
Do I need a head lamp or running light? YES. You definitely will need one to see what you're running on. Trail races by nature require greater attention to where one steps. Darkness increases the need to be more aware of your footing. We recommend you visit our friends/partners at Runners Athletic Company Stores in Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, and Mount Pleasant to find the best available options!
Will the trail be lit or marked? The trail will not be lit. However, there WILL be LED lights and course markings to guide runners through the course. If you have your headlamp or run light, you should have no problem seeing the signs. ;)
Will there be an aid/water station on the course? Yes. There will be a water station at about .75 miles (at the bridge) that runners will pass twice on each lap. This station will also have sports drink, gels and other carbs for those running the longer distances.
Do I need special running shoes for this race? Not necessarily, though trail specific shoes would help tremendously in keeping your footing on this course. We recommend you visit our friends/partners at Runners Athletic Stores in Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, and Mt Pleasant to find the best available options!
Can I walk or ruck instead of run? Absolutely. We ask that you sign up ONLY for the 1 Lap 5k or the 3 Lap 15k races and that you remain to the side of the trail and out of the path of runners if you choose to walk or ruck though.
Will there be beer at the race? The Eagles of Midland will be serving up 2 brews from Presenting Sponsor Shorts Brewing Company to each participant as part of your registration offering. We are geeked about this! Race Director Andy has a fondness for Short’s Locals Light.
Can spectators buy beer? That’s the plan! Check back closer to race day for confirmation on that. ;)
Can I bring my own beer to the event? Midland City Park allows open adult beverage containers in non-glass containers. However, out of respect for our presenting Sponsors at Short’s Brewing Company, we’d ask that you do NOT bring other alcoholic beverages to the event. No other alcoholic beverages will be allowed inside the fenced off event area – including the race/beer tent.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS. Please don’t drink and drive.
Will there be age group awards for this event? Yes! Overall awards will be provided to the top 3 male and female participants in each event. Age group awards will be presented to the top male and female participant in each age group. Results will be submitted to USA Track & Field.
Will there be Masters awards for this event? Sorry Old Timers (I can say that because I, Andy, am one of you), no Masters awards for Red Moon Trail Run…THIS year. We’ll take a look after this year’s race to see if it makes sense to have them for 2020. ;)
Refund and Transfer Policy
We completely understand that plans change and athletes will sometimes be unable to compete in an event they've signed up for. Unfortunately, refunds will not be provided for any event unless the event is cancelled for reasons within our control. Dangerous weather, natural disasters, and local emergencies are examples of reasons an event may be cancelled that are NOT within our control.
Should an athlete have an injury or other medical issue keeping them from competing in an event they've registered for, we would be happy to transfer their registration to a similar TriToFinish-owned event up to and including the same event the following season. A doctor's slip may be required as proof of injury or ailment. Failure to provide proof if requested will result in non-transfer of the event.
Transferring registrations to other athletes is NOT allowed.
